About this website and its author…
About the author:
Erik is a high school teacher who lives north of Anchorage, Alaska. He’s always been fascinated with the intersections of spirituality and culture. He loves literature, poetry, and philosophy and all things outdoors. When he’s not teaching he can usually be found outside — hunting, fishing, trapping, hiking, skiing, gardening, and beekeeping. He also develops websites on the side. You can find out more about his web development business (and hire him!) here.
About this website:
This site is has changed a lot over the years. While it continues to be a place for me to record my personal musings, thoughts ,poetry, and philosophy, it has also turned into a repository of hard-learned knowledge about Alaska living and my attempts to create a mini-farmstead on my 1.5 acres. I hope you enjoy what you find here!

If I may state a simply awe inspiring teacher of mine, who while rather busy in life the past year I foresee more than exceptional teaching of you. Thanks for teaching and opening my mind Mr. Erik Johnson.
P.S. If I may dull down this comment by asking when I might purchase or attain that soap we talked about.
Hey, ACAT is a local non-profit and we are starting up a pilot program that you might be interested in. “Learn to grow organically. Join our grassroots efforts at building sustainable systems, in an urban multi-plot organic farm.” 222-7714

I enjoyed reading several articles on your blog, and am impressed by your excellent photographs.
Thanks. My husband has just started beekeeping (the current article on my blog) and your notes about the rogue queen were of great interest. Also, I saw that you made birch syrup. We haven’t endeavored to do so, but he does make his spring beer with birch sap to replace the water. (I have an article about that dated May or June 2013). Perhaps you would enjoy that, too. Hi Erik,
Thank you for the food here–both for body and mind. Do you still check the comments on this website? I would love to respond to your essay, “How to Save the World”.
Anne,
Good to hear from you! I got your card that you sent with James. Feel free to respond, though my ideas have changed substantially over the last decade since I wrote that!
